What a great way to start the New Year. Wasting no time the Beady Eyed Ladies group set their first session for 2017 to be January 2. The theme was Frida Kahlo and the bead selection was very inspirational. We all gathered at Debbie's house and from the moment we walked in the door the stage was set. Mexican music was playing and the chips and home made salsa were on the table. After pouring Sangria and passing the salsa we headed to the colorful table setting for a scrumptious meal of shrimp enchiladas with two choices of flour tortilla, and a citrus salad accompanied the plate. Dessert which was available for viewing the entire time we were eating made us opt for dessert first before we showed our creations. I must say the spice stuffed cupcakes with carmel butter cream frosting melted away any cares we had up to this point.
Let the showing begin:
First Gwen:
Well she outdid herself. This hand crochet necklace with fabric covered buttons, her headband, bracelet and earrings, one pair using the white wing beads as mermaid feet were an excellent use of her talent. This one won for most creative with the theme.
Actually our hostess greeted us at the door wearing her headband and earrings. So we were smiling from the get go. By the way the headbands were white and Debbie painted hers black for background to her flower adornments.
What a lovely color combination, note the white wings and how she incorporated them into the necklace. Earrings with coral flower beads and copper leaves make this a perfect set.
OK this one won for using all of the beads, even the stem form the silk flower went into making a sculpture of a tree with pink bead leaves! The wonderful prize was the Frida ornament seen in the picture above. Thanks Linda V. this will always have a place in my home.
Linda used the wings and leaves in a pair of earrings and the red and coral together to compliment the headband and earrings with white crosses which also was in support of the theme. Very creative.
Next Debbie:
